WSOP poker pro pleads not guilty to murder charge

Way back in February we reported on the disturbing case of a professional poker player who had been accused of murdering his parents in their home last year. The man accused, Ernest Scherer III has now appeared in the Alameda County Superior Court to face the charges.

This year sees the start of a new era for the Poker Hall of Fame, the general poker playing public are actually getting their chance to have a say in who is finally inducted into this prestigious poker club with the other poker elite. It won’t be a cut and dried process of those with the most nominations being automatically entered, the top ten poker players nominated by the public will then be sent to the existing sixteen living members of the Poker Hall of Fame to have the final vote.

Dutch Poker Stars pro Pieter de Korver takes EPT title

The final fantastical episode of the Grand Final of the European Poker Tour (EPT) took place in Monte Carlo and saw Dutch ‘Team Poker Stars Pro’ Netherlands player Pieter de Korver emerging victorious. The Grand Final main event attracted 935 poker players with the final table seating the last eight who had managed to remain in the game.

Big name poker sites go on Minnesota blacklist

Just when it looked like the new Obama administration would bring some good old common sense to the ban on internet gambling in the U.S. the Minnesota Department of Public Safety has to go and upset the apple cart again. Minnesota have issued a list of internet gambling sites that includes big name players like BoDog, Party Poker’s casino site and Full Tilt Poker.

Timoshenko $2.15 million richer and new WPT Champion

Yevgeniy "Jovial Gent" Timoshenko is fast becoming a poker legend after walking away with the WPT championship title and is the second youngest to achieve such success. Timoshenko who was born in the Ukraine but raised in the U.S. is only 21 and has already gained some major poker wins including the Asian Poker Tour in Macau in August 2008 which provided him with $500,000, but the latest World Poker Tour win leaves him $2.15 million the richer.

Alistair Darling has taken a side swipe at the poker world with the surprising decision to tax poker in the same fashion as casino games. Alistair Darling remained impassive as he delivered news of the budget even though this was one of the toughest budgets on record from any Chancellor of the Exchequer.

The shock budget news saw Rank shares take a massive tumble of 9 per cent immediately after the budget details were released. In fact so incensed has the Chief Executive at Rank, Mr Ian Burke, been that he has written to the Chancellor in protestation. He has stated in his letter that it is his belief that poker games will be ‘driven underground’ and that card rooms will close.

PRWeb has decided to make the shock decision in light of recent search engines amending their editorial policy including Google and Yahoo, who are now refusing to promote online gambling sites.
