 Approval has been given by the authorities to expand the Asian Poker Tour which takes place in Macau, this will double the amount of days available from six to twelve making it the largest Asian Poker Tour and the first ever held festival of poker. Running from the 12th August and ending on the 23rd August it is expected that even more famous names than last year will attend this prestigious poker tour which takes place at the Galaxy Starworld Hotel and Casino. Last years big names who took part from 40 counties included Doyle Brunson, John Juanda, Todd Brunson, Johnny Chan and Jack Binion as well as many more. The eventual winner was Yevgeniy Tomoshenko a 20 year old from America who walked away with the $500,000 prize fund as well as the title. |

 A new automated electronic poker table called PokerPro had been given approval by the Nevada Gaming Commission. This approval is considered to be a major feather in the cap of the makers PowerTek, who produce casino and amusement products for the gaming industry. The Nevada Gaming Commission is reputedly a difficult nut to crack in terms of gaining approval for new gaming products, and the approval comes after field trials were carried out in Nevada. It is hoped that the newly approved PokerPro table will now be able to gain a much larger presence in Nevada. |

At the same time that it is rumoured that the United States may be about to relax the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act implemented whilst President Bush was in power and that online poker may be played once more in the U.S., there are reports that the Philippines are considering introducing laws very similar to ban online poker and casinos. The suggestions have been reportedly made by Narciso Santiago of the Alliance for Rural Concerns Party who has raised a bill proposing to make online poker and gambling illegal. A report in the Philippine Daily Enquirer states that Santiago is concerned about the effects of online poker and gambling on the young and addicted and that it is a means for money laundering in the criminal fraternity. |
