New dad Arshad ‘Ash’ Hussain of Accrington certainly has good reason to be celebrating, not only on the birth of his first son a few weeks ago but also because he has just been crowned Champion of Champions in the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour main event. Hussain, once European Player of the Year had recently returned to the online poker tables after taking a short break remarked “Having had the best part of a year away from poker, I am delighted to have made my comeback to the game in this manner.” Hussain is keeping the GUKPT success in the family, his brother Zahir ‘Zippy’ Aslam won the same trophy two years ago, so no doubt family pride was also part of the desire to win.

The GUKPT does not allow online poker players the option of a buy in to take part, but requires that online poker players win their place at the table by taking part in pot limit Hold’em satellites with a £50 rebuy. The prize fund for this relatively small poker tournament had been boosted by the sum of £25,000 by Blue Square Poker.

The magnificent win by Hussain, was managed by defeating chip leader in the tournament Ash Ahmed with a 9-7 straight effectively wiping the floor with Ahmed’s K-5 offering. Hussain, with this trophy in the bag will no doubt be anticipating a reprise of his success in next year’s tournament, as he has vowed to return to full time poker next year.

The Grosvenor UK Poker Tour will return next year with the opportunity to take part in the online poker Daily Freeroll and then by participating in the feeders and rebuy satellites to eventually be in with a chance of taking a chair in the Main 2009 GUKPT Event.
