The final fantastical episode of the Grand Final of the European Poker Tour (EPT) took place in Monte Carlo and saw Dutch ‘Team Poker Stars Pro’ Netherlands player Pieter de Korver emerging victorious. The Grand Final main event attracted 935 poker players with the final table seating the last eight who had managed to remain in the game.

Dag Martin Mikkelsen (dmmikkel") was the chip leader and favourite on the final table, and although he started strong was eliminated at 4th position after a run in with de Korver. The Team Poker Stars Pro, Pieter de Korver played a fantastic poker game and at one time looked like he could be eliminated, Pieter managed to pull off a magnificent comeback to take the first place and the massive first position prize money of €2,300,000.

The Dutchman said when he was interviewed after the poker game “I was loving the atmosphere and enjoying playing cards," and rather charitably "I had a little bit of luck and I won. That's the best part of poker". Pieter de Korver is aged 26 and from Leeuwarden in Holland, he has been playing professional poker since 2008. Pieter gave up his full time job after becoming the Poker Champion of Holland which is a television show in the Netherlands sponsored by Poker Stars. Pieter has managed to win a total of $3,279,932 in his poker career to date.

Poker Stars was well represented at the final table with Pieter de Korver being joined by U.S.Poker Stars Qualifier Matthew Woodward, the Russian Poker Stars qualifier Mikhail Tulchinskiy and the Hungarian Poker Stars qualifier Peter Traply. Pieter de Korver’s stunning win now has him no.1 in the EPT rankings and more importantly has the European Poker Tour trophy back in European hands.
