A new automated electronic poker table called PokerPro had been given approval by the Nevada Gaming Commission. This approval is considered to be a major feather in the cap of the makers PowerTek, who produce casino and amusement products for the gaming industry. The Nevada Gaming Commission is reputedly a difficult nut to crack in terms of gaining approval for new gaming products, and the approval comes after field trials were carried out in Nevada. It is hoped that the newly approved PokerPro table will now be able to gain a much larger presence in Nevada.

The fully automated PokerPro table is of benefit to the operator in many ways, it allows for more poker hands to be dealt increasing revenues substantially, without any time wasted by staff dealing with disputes. Less gaming staff overall are needed and more time can be given on providing customer service functions. Further benefits to the casino or poker room are the sophisticated reporting tools that the PokerPro has, allowing for up to the minute accounting and financial analysis as well as in depth player information, such as performance tracking. The benefits to the poker player are that the poker is quicker, without any risk of human error and eliminating the need for tipping. New poker players are not intimidated as there is no experienced human dealer to interact with, leaving them to feel free to play without any embarrassment. The PokerPro gives credits to successful players to access free play.

PokerTek was founded in 2003 when development of the electronic poker tables began. The company has gone from strength to strength since the first prototype PokerPro table was launched and now has tables in practically every corner of the world, including; Southeast Asia, Australia, Africa, United States and Europe as well as on some of the major cruise ships.
