![]() Shocking news from over the pond has been received by Poker Hideout that a professional tournament poker player has been arrested on suspicion of murder. Ernest Scherer III has been arrested in connection of the murder of his parents who were killed on March 14th last year in Pleasanton, and is being held without bail in Las Vegas. The 30 year old World Series of Poker player from Southern California has amassed $339,780 in his tournament Poker career, and is the main suspect in the murder of 60 year old Ernie Scherer Jr. and his wife 57 year old Charlene Abendroth. The couple were found dead at their Castlewood Country Club home after lying undiscovered for almost a week in what appeared to be a savage beating with a sharp instrument. The police believe the motive for the murder was money though they have not disclosed any further information regarding this theory. A car very similar to that owned by Ernest Scherer III was captured on video very close to the scene of the crime at around the time that the incident is believed to have occurred. Ernest Scherer III’s last major tournament poker win was $34,362 in a Limit Hold’em at the 37th Annual WSOP Event 7 on Sunday 2nd July 2006 at the Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, where he achieved 8th place. The $3,000 buy in attracted 415 players and Scherer managed to reach the final table with a chip count of $118,000, though lost early on in the poker game, the WSOP tournament poker game was eventually won by Bill Chen. Ernie Scherer Jr. was also a keen poker player although his main occupation was in property investment. Charlene his wife of 31 years was an accounting lecturer at Cal State East Bay.
